The VFW hosted this event. Local Rumford citizens were presented with silver stars for their honorable service in the Armed Forces. The recipients included veterans from WWII, Korean War, and the Vietnam War.

Nineteen Soldiers from 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) were awarded the Silver Star Medal for their actions in combat in Afghanistan and Iraq. The valor award ceremony took place on Dec. 12 in the John F. Kennedy Auditorium adjacent to the US Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School building. Lt. Gen. John F.
